Feel good. Do good. Pass it on.
That’s the motto behind Trek Light Gear (TLG), an incredible company that we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know over the last year. They make lightweight hammocks and other sweet outdoor products, but that only scratches the surface of this awesome operation.
Behind their practical & durable product portfolio, there’s an amazing team of people with genuine social purpose. Whether it’s planting trees, equipping kids-in-need with school supplies or battling cancer, everything that comes in, gets paid forward to humanity in some meaningful way.
A new friendship, 10 years in the making
About a decade ago, Adam bought his first TLG hammock. Last year, over some relaxing cocktails in Vela Luka, we got the annual Hammock Day email from TLG, and decided it was time to up our hammock game with some fresh gear. A month-and-a-half later, we arrived back home to find our new hammock patiently waiting for us, with a handwritten note inside the box. That note reminded us why we love doing business with companies like TLG.
Since then, our TLG hammock and daypack (another sweet item we picked up earlier this year) have traveled with us to 8 U.S. states, a dozen or so national & state parks, and the island of Aruba. We thought it was time we share the love with our community and give you guys a closer look at these products, the people behind them and the causes that they support.
Trek Light Gear: products with social purpose
Every Trek Light Gear product is backed with a Lifetime Warranty and Happiness Guarantee. And as if that wasn’t awesome enough, the TLG 1-For-1 Give Back model means that every purchase is a catalyst for change–making it possible for you to Feel Good, Do Good and Pass It On.
Let’s take a look at a couple of our favorite TLG products, and their give back programs.
Product: Double Hammock
We try to bring this fantastic double-hammock with us wherever we go. While traveling, it packs up to the size of a grapefruit and weighs just over a pound. When it’s time to put it to use, it fastens to a tree within seconds and easily holds the two of us (with extra space for some hounds, if needed).
TLG Give Back: Every Hammock Plants Two Trees
For every hammock purchased, TLG works with Trees For The Future to plant two trees around the globe. They’ve planted tens of thousands of trees since this initiative began and they’re just getting started.
Their special edition Banana Hammock is on a mission to beat cancer once and for all. 20% of all proceeds from the sales of this exclusive hammock bundle will go to the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research and aid in the fight to eradicate cancer once and for all.
Product: Bindle Daypack
We also use their lightweight backpack (known as their Bindle Daypack) for hiking and day trips. It balls up into the size of a pair of socks, weighs only 3.5 ounces and holds up to 40 pounds!
TLG Give Back: Backpack For Change
For every Bindle Backpack purchased, TLG delivers a child around the world with a package of school supplies (pencils, notebooks and folders) thanks to their partnership with Be The Change Volunteers. For less than $40 you get an incredible backpack and a child gets the gift of a better future.
Other awesome gear
The backbone of the TLG operation is hammocks, no doubt. But their portfolio includes some other awesome products, definitely worth checking out:
- Outdoor blankets
- Light Up Bocce Ball Set
- Stop, Hammock Time T-Shirts
- Under the Stars Candle
- Campfire Fishing Pole

Hmmm. The holidays are coming up, aren’t they…?
Our trip to Hammock HQ: Boulder, Colorado
Earlier this year, we were in Colorado visiting D’s sister and we stopped by Trek Light Gear headquarters…aka Hammock HQ.
The passion and laid-back company culture shine through as soon as you walk in the door.
We’d known about Trek Light Gear products for 10 years, but what we didn’t know, or rather who we didn’t know, were the people that make it happen behind the scenes.
Bottom line: we’re thrilled to have gotten a chance to meet the TLG team face-to-face. We’ve always loved supporting small businesses, and this is a company we can also feel truly proud to support.
Props for doing business the right way TLG! And keep on hammockin’…
Happiness shouldn’t be temporary and neither should the products you buy.
P.S – This is not a sponsored post, but if you click through to TLG’s website using the links in this article–and purchase something–DnA will get a little something in return. Hammock on y’all.
