Privacy Policy & Disclaimers

Hey! How’s it going?!

We’re Danielle & Adam (aka DnA aka travelhelix), and we’re so glad you came to visit us here at! We truly believe we have some awesome, interesting, beautiful & inspirational things to share with you – and every other visitor to this website!

Unfortunately, this page is NOT one of those awesome, interesting, beautiful & inspirational things. But the boring legal stuff is necessary, so please find our privacy policy below. If you have any questions, you can always email us at

When you leave a comment on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Our site also uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed, here.

Contact forms

If you decide you want to reach out to us on our Contact Us page, you’ll see that we ask for 3 simple things:

  1. Your name: so that we know who you are!
  2. Your email address: so that we know how to reach you!
  3. A comment: so that you can tell us why you’re reaching out!

We promise not to use any of this information for marketing purposes.

If you decide you want to subscribe to receive every new post, article, travel guide & anecdote via email, then we’ll need your email address. Seems reasonable! Again, we promise not to misuse any of this information. We just need to know where to reach you!

You can subscribe by entering your email address on pretty much every page of our website, on the box on the right-hand side where it says “FOLLOW US VIA EMAIL” (if you’re using a phone or a tablet, you’ll find this box toward the bottom of nearly every page).

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

What’s a cookie? Please find a couple of useful resources here and here.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on our site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you’ve visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We use Google Analytics as a 3rd party service to help us track usage, traffic and other information such as which website may have referred you. Google Analytics may capture your IP address, but it doesn’t capture any other personal information. You can read more about Google Analytics’ privacy policy here.

Who we share your data with

At this time, your personal information is not shared with any other third-party applications. We promise to keep your personal information private, except if/when required by law.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you’ve subscribed to the site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Affiliate disclaimer

travelhelix is a participant in affiliate programs designed to provide means for websites like ours to earn fees by linking to other websites where products can be purchased, accommodation can be booked, etc. We promise to always keep it real and never promote a product or technology that we don’t believe in.

Many of the products on this page, for example, are associated with affiliate partner programs, meaning if you purchase through the links on the page, we may get something in return. Other products may not be affiliated, meaning there’s no “something” in it for us, if you make a purchase. If you have any questions or concerns about affiliate partnership programs, please email us privately.
